Ok, let me start off here by stating that this will probably offend someone. Let me then follow up that statement by stating that I couldn’t care less. People take themselves too seriously nowadays, so lighten up and get a sense of humor already. If you are not capable of this, then I suggest you read no further.
Having said that, those of you that know me well know that I have very little use for organized religion, and even less so for the institution/government/empire that is the Catholic Church. However, the recent succession to the Papal throne of Joseph Alois Ratzinger, better known now as Pope Benedict XVI, has given me (and thousands of others) great pleasure.
This has nothing to do with his politics, beliefs, or stands on issues of state, er, religion. Rather, this is due to one highly fortunate and hilarious coincidence, over which he has absolutely no control. Now, I have nothing at all against this man, in fact, I know almost nothing about him or his views. What I do know is this. He looks EERILY SIMILAR to a fictional character of American pop culture known as Emperor Palpatine, or Darth Sidious, from the Star Wars saga:
Now, while I hold no ill will against him I can’t help but laugh every time I see him. It’s to the point that I had to look him up to find his real name, because I can only bring myself to call him “Pope Palpatine” or “Darth Pope.” This is made even more humorous by the fact that my wife grew up Catholic, and while she sees the resemblance, she isn’t amused:
In closing, if you can’t find humor in this, and are offended, then you obviously didn’t heed my warning in the opener of this blog. If that’s the case, you have no one to blame but yourself. I will not apologize or feel bad about it in any way, shape, or form. In fact, I will instead offer this advice:
